![]() ![]() It’s always held its own (except for that one time it sunk 500 feet off shore in Buzzard Bay because I forgot to put the drain plug back in). It’s been on hundreds of trips-ponds, lakes, rivers, and even ocean paddles. It comes with two flush mount rod holders and an awesome removable dry box. It’s definitely an entry-level fishing kayak. In 2007, I purchased an in-hull fishing kayak from Field & Stream for $400. (There’s a video tour at the bottom if you’re pressed for time) The Bonafide ss107 in top gun gray next to my 13 year old Field & Stream Kayak After extensive research, I purchased a new Bonafide ss107 kayak. When possible, I combine both of these activities! Earlier this season, my previous kayak of 13 years finally had its last trip. Another one of my favorite things is go fishing. ![]() One of my favorite things to do is kayak. Added some quality issues I ran into below, along with experience on different water types and some hopes for future model improvements. It is slow but so is a 10' jon boat and that's what I compare this to and the bonafide ss107 beats a jon boat hands down.Update: July 14, 2020. I have just as much trouble with a 65 lb kayak (I sold to get this) as I do this one so as far as I'm concerned It could weight 125 and I could still lift the nose and tail to slide it in the back of my van. The cart that I use is very light, breaks down easily, and I could put it in the kayak hull but I just throw it in the back of my van until I need it. ![]() When i load up, I could do it by myself but my wife takes one side and I take the other and slide it back in. But, if you take it to the boat ramp and slide it out of the van into the water its a breeze to handle. It is VERY heavy and you MUST have a specific type of kayak cart. Its VERY stable, VERY adjustable/comfortable seat, and supports a large man with a lot of equipment. I would not use this in a river I could not row upstream. I bought it because it fits in the back of my cargo van and I bought it for fishing in lake coves while camping. Its a challenge to find much under 12' that holds as much weight and you can stand in this! Because you can stand or sit up VERY high in the adjustable seat, it makes for a better fly fishing platform than any kayak. I consider it more of a "special use vehicle". Because of the tri-hull design, I can't compare this to any true kayak. I rate it 5 stars because its better than anything under 12 feet. I would not recommend buying one unless you are going to use it with a kayak trailer. I would get a different one if I had not invested $1350 in this one. They do not respond to questions or requests for recommendations from their website contact page at all. 5) Bonafide customer service hasn't been good. The long paddle back and especially if you have to paddle upstream is much harder in this kayak. I purchased the wings but haven't noticed significant improvement. I've tried 3 so far and am getting ready to order a 4th. Due to the tri-hull design most carts don't work. 2) Finding a kayak cart that works well has been difficult. It's a must to have a good kayak cart to get it to the water. 1) It's very heavy! At 87 pounds without the seat it is quite heavy to move around. It is a good kayak but I really wish I would have waited for other options. It has room for attachments and accessories. I have plenty of room for my 4 rods and all the tackle I'd ever need to take. I really enjoy fishing out of it once I get out to the water. I was drawn to being able to sit higher and have more room than my Malibu Mini-X. ![]()
